About

Where is Storm located?

Storm’s address is 40330 Tantalus Road, Squamish, BC V0N 1T0.

How do I contact Storm?

We would love to hear from you! Email: stormstrength@hotmail.com or Phone OR Text: 604-935-5969.

How do I join Storm Strength and Performance?

It’s a really simple process – and it’s all handled here on the website. Click on ‘Join’ from the main menu, create a username and password. Select your type of membership, and away you go! You’ll be a member in just a few simple steps. If that doesn’t work you can always fire us an email or give us a phone call.

What is the minimum age to join Storm?

You need to be 14 years old to join. However, we do offer a group class called Athletes in Training for the younger crew, which starts at age 6.

Can I change my membership type?

Yes, you can change your month-to-month membership type with 1 months notice. Contract memberships can change also, however a penalty will be applied if you change to a shorter term. You will pay the full regular rate not the discount rate.

What does “month-to-month” mean?

You are not contractually tied to your membership for any specified period of time. That means you’ve got complete freedom. However to cancel we require 1 month notice for cancellations.

When I purchase a pass may I purchase it for a future date?

Yes you can. If you wish to buy a pass and use it in a week, month or longer you are more than welcome to do so. You may pick the date when you purchase your own pass on line or send us an e-mail to stormstrength@hotmail.com and we will do it for you.

Can I put my pass on hold for holidays?

Absolutely. We will hold your pass if you are on holidays in ONE consecutive run for two weeks. Your charges will go through, however the time will be added at the end of your contract. If you go on holidays for a week this is not considered a pass hold. You also may not hold it two times in a year.

Should I come to the gym if I am sick or injured?

If you are sick the answer is please stay home! Please don’t think any of the coaches are going to be proud of you that you made it even though you are sick. We sweat and we don’t want others getting sick so please stay home and rest. Coaches’ orders!

If you are injured it depends on the injury what we will recommend. For more serious injuries, we speak with your GP or specialist for advice. Many classes won’t affect you if you fell off your bike on the weekend but if you twisted your ankle running and we have a leg day your option is to stay home and rest or we can program for you an upper body day.

Is Storm competitive?

This is a question we get asked all the time. People feel the methodology of training now a days is very competitive and the people who attend gyms are always talking about their PR’s etc. We are not that gym. We are here to live life, to have fun and to train with functional mobility. We are not going to talk 24/7 about your 1 rep max, how much you squatted, benched or deadlifted. You can eat bread and we don’t expect you to follow a specific diet. We will always encourage you based your specific goals and interests, but each person is different and we respect that. We do optional challenges that are ten days to two months that take out alcohol, dairy etc. but that is a body re-set and we don’t do them all the time. We firmly believe there is MORE TO LIFE than JUST THE GYM. We want to be PART of your life. We don’t want to BE YOUR LIFE.

One of the main reasons we don’t train really heavy 1 rep max training is the injury we see over and over with backs and shoulders. We know that you may be fine to do these lifts now but you may not fair so well in your 50/60’s. The ‘general’ populace is not an athlete and although it is nice to think of ourselves that way we need to also be cognizant that we are athletic and not doing this as a career.

What type of clientele frequents Storm?

All levels train at our gym. We have athletes competing in Ironman, 5 km, 10 km and distance road, running and adventure races to people who have never stepped foot in a gym or are just coming back after having a baby. We can modify each class/workout on the board that will cater to your needs.

Do I have to pay extra for fundamentals or learning how to exercise?

No, all of our coaches will teach you proper form and technique for each exercise and how to perform the workouts at the beginning of the workout and throughout the hour.

I have never worked out before. Should I get fit before joining Storm?

Whether you are in great shape or a complete beginner we create a workout intensity level and atmosphere for everyone. If you have never worked out before the best thing you can do is join and we will assist you with becoming fit, safely.

How does personal training work?

Our personal trainers are excited to help you get started in your health style direction. We have a variety of personal training options from one session to 10 sessions and from individual to small group. Book as soon as possible so that you may achieve your results within weeks. All personal training sessions must be booked around Storm group workout times.

Can I still work or will I be too sore?

You can still work but when you start we will set out a plan of action based on your job, activity level and fitness level.

Can I pay monthly payments for my membership?

Yes, all of our memberships are set up on a monthly payment plan. If you wish to pay in full that is also an option you just have to let us know.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring a water bottle, indoor training shoes and a towel. We do provide towels and we have a water fountain and bottle filler. For our keen crew they generally pack a gym bag with skip ropes, boxing gloves, trainers, gloves, water bottle, recovery snack and sweat towel.

Can I still do my regular activities?

Yes. If you know you are going for a long ride and we have programmed in a heavy leg day, do go at an appropriate level in class. We train to enhance life and sports, not so that we are so sore, we fear laughing and the sight of a flight of stairs scares us to death the day after an abs or leg day!

Are all the fitness instructors certified? What are credentials?

All fitness instructors are fully certified coaches. We have the most diverse level of combined knowledge in the corridor. The certifications include BCRPA, ACE, PT, kinesiology, TRX, Group, Yoga Alliance, pre and post natal, third age population training, Crossfit level 1, Crossfit gymnastics, Pilates, weight lifting, battle ropes and kettlebells and a wide variety of sports expertise.

We started training together in 2000. We have had ‘regular people’ do some amazing things and become fantastic athletes. If your goal is to compete in a 5 km or an Iron Man we will set out a strategy and hook you up with people and coaches who have done it and get you to your goal. We encourage you to write your goals on the goal board and accomplish them. We don’t just ask for fitness goals, any goal and as a gym we encourage any progress physical, mental or emotional!

Can I pay by cash or card?

Storm accepts major debit, credit and cash. Daily memberships can be purchased with VISA Credit, VISA Debit, and MasterCard. We do not accept American Express.

Do you offer nutrition counseling?

Our fitness instructors will help gym members plan their diets according to their targeted fitness goals. You can hire coaches monthly to create specific diets or work with us on our challenges. We do have external nutritionists who are also available to work with you one on one for an additional fee.

What are your busiest times?

We maintain a steady coaching facility all day. We tend to be busier right before work and right after however we have classes starting at 5:30 am and run until 8:00 pm, seasonally dependent and we offer Saturday and Sunday mornings. Please view our schedule for a complete, up to date class schedule. Our long, flexible hours allow gym members to workout throughout the day without the club getting extremely busy. Storm is open seven days a week September-June and six days July and August.

How can I cancel my membership?

You can cancel your membership at any time via e-mail or in person at the gym. You must give one months notice and pay the difference of the contracted membership if cancelled early

Will I be shown how to use the equipment or do the exercises?

Yes, our coaches will provide demos with proper form, setup and technique followed by making sure your body mechanics and intensity level are correct for your fitness level during the exercise.

What is included in the gym membership?

Along with the workout equipment, members are provided with a small group personal training style workout at Storm. We offer fun challenges throughout the year to help you succeed and achieve maximal results with strength gains, weight loss, exercise skill & motivation! Nutrition tips and assistance are provided to help you make results outside the gym.

What is the Athletes in Training Program?

This is a VERY popular program designed to enhance children’s flexibility, mobility, endurance and knowledge of nutrition and fitness. We train in separated age groups for 45 minutes each week and it’s lots of fun!

What is your class cancellation policy?

The cancellation policy is four hours minimum before any class and eight hours for the 5:30 am, 6:00 am and 7:00 am classes. We understand that things come up and life happens, but we also want to respect our members that are on the wait list, and be fair to allow everyone the opportunity to workout.

Do you have student passes?

Yes our student rate is $99 per month and includes high school and university students.

Can I put my pass on hold for sickness or injury?

Yes you can. If this is a minor injury we do not do pass holds however if you break your leg snowboarding (for example) we will add the time on at the end of your contract. Passes are not paused financially, however you don't lose time. A cold or flu does not warrant a pass hold.

Do you sell clothing, food and boxing attire at the gym?

Yes we do. We sell protein bars, protein powder, clothing, candles, creams, soap, coffee mugs, Kleene Kanteen water bottles, gym sweatshirts, gym t-shirts, foam rollers and more. Our products are always changing, come check them out, or let us know what you would love to see more of!

How many days a week should I work out?

If you request, we can assess this as we find out your goals and fitness level. Generally three times a week is a good start.

Is the Hot Box included in my membership?

Hot Box is our heated, infrared studio. A dual membership to the Hot Box is available for $150 per month. These are separate companies.
